The Iowa Medicaid Enterprise (IME) is a part of the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). The IME manages the Medicaid program. This page will share with you things you may need to know and how to contact Members Services with your questions. “Members” are the people who have Medicaid benefits to help pay for their medical and health care costs. “Providers” are the health care workers who help Medicaid members meet their health care needs. 

What is Medicaid?
Medicaid is a program that covers medical and health care costs of people who qualify. There are a range of programs and services covered through Medicaid. You can learn who is eligible for which Medicaid programs at "Who Receives Medicaid?". The Medicaid program is paid for by the federal and state government and is managed by the IME of DHS.

  • New! Iowa Health and Wellness Plan members can get more information about their health coverage at the IA Health Link webpage. This new webpage shares plan resources and information about the Healthy Behaviors program. Visit the IA Health Link page to learn more.

  • The Medicaid quarterly newsletter for members, Partners for Better Health and Wellness is now available and shares with Medicaid members information on transportation services, a chance to share their views on Home and Community Based Services, new information about Consumer Directed Attendant Care and Consumer Choices Option services, and a new interview for Intellectual Disability services.

  • To apply for health care coverage, call the DHS Contact Center at 1-855-889-7985 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. To download and print an application or complete an online application visit the DHS Services Portal.

  • The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released Program Integrity: Safeguarding Your Medical Identity Toolkit. The toolkit defines medical identity theft and how to protect yourself as a member.
