Member Services

On April 1, 2016, most Iowa Medicaid programs were joined together into one managed care program called IA Health Link. Most existing Medicaid members were enrolled in IA Health Link on April 1, 2016, and most new members who become eligible after April 1, 2016, will also be enrolled in IA Health Link. This program gives you health coverage through a Managed Care Organization (MCO) that you get to choose. Some Medicaid members, however, will continue to receive Medicaid coverage through a Medicaid Fee-for-Service program and will not transition to the IA Health Link program. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) services will continue to be offered through the Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa program, also known as hawk-i.  Simply put, Iowa Medicaid has three main coverage groups:

  1. IA Health Link
  2. Medicaid Fee-for-Service (FFS)
  3. hawk-i

We encourage you to read more about each of the three main Iowa Medicaid coverage groups by visiting the web pages of the IA Health Link program, the Medicaid Fee-for-Service programs, and the hawk-i program where you will find answers to many questions. Other valuable information resources such as the IA Health Link Frequently Asked Questions, the IA Health Link Managed Care Program Handbook, and the Medicaid Guide to Fee-for-Service (FFS) were produced to help give you a better understanding of the many services offered by Iowa Medicaid.
