Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (hawk-i)

IA Health Link Members to Regain Choice
Amerigroup of Iowa has notified the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) that they have capacity to begin accepting new IA Health Link members. DHS will be ending the temporary suspension of MCO choice. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks and months. Please check the hawk-i Frequently Asked Questions web page for more details.

The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is offered through the Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa program, also known as hawk-i. Iowa offers hawk-i health coverage for uninsured children of working families.

No family pays more than $40 a month. Some families pay nothing at all. A child who qualifies for hawk-i health insurance will get their health coverage through a Managed Care Organization (MCO).

The hawk-i program includes two health plans, or MCOs:

  • Amerigroup Iowa, Inc.*

  • UnitedHealthcare Plan of the River Valley, Inc.

*The Department has put in place a temporary suspension of choice. New members will be assigned to UnitedHealthcare and will be notified when chioce is available.
