Iowa SIM Healthcare Innovation and Visioning Roundtable


The purpose of the Iowa State Innovation Model (SIM) Healthcare Innovation and Visioning Roundtable is to engage leaders around the state to develop consensus and transform how the healthcare system operates to best serve the needs of all Iowans.  It will identify and prioritize elements necessary for reform, such as specific payment models, infrastructure support and policy and regulatory shifts necessary to fuel progress.

Iowa Workers Get Free Tax Preparation Assistance

The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) reminds Iowans with low to moderate income, Iowans who are elderly, and Iowans with disabilities that they can get free tax preparation services at sites throughout the state.

Funding for this initiative comes from a three-year grant through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant program. VITA is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) initiative designed to promote and support free tax preparation service for the underserved, in both urban and non-urban locations.

Prior Authorization


Prior Authorization from the Iowa Medicaid Enterprise (IME) is required for certain services and supplies.  It is necessary to fill out and submit the Prior Authorization Form # 470-0829 to the IME to obtain these services and/or supplies.

Anthony Lyman Appointed as CIO

The Department of Human Services (DHS) announces Anthony Lyman as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO). Lyman began his new role on Monday, January 8, 2018. Lyman is not new to DHS; he has served in several lead capacities for the ELIAS project over the last five plus years, as well as a lead role within the SLI Company. Previously, and for ten years, he was a company owner, leader and manager with a global presence as an entrepreneur with an IT Portfolio in excess of $400 million, with over one hundred employees.

Nursing Facilities and Skilled Nursing Facilities (NF and SNF)


Nursing facilities provide 24-hour care for individuals who need nursing or skilled nursing care. Medicaid helps with the cost of care in nursing facilities, but you must be medically and financially eligible for care in a nursing facility.
