Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Amendments: AIDS/HIV Waiver

Pursuant to the authority of Iowa Code Section 249A.4, the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) intends to amend the Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) AIDS/HIV Waiver. This notice provides details about the HCBS amendments and serves to open the 30-day public comment period which closes at 4:30 PM on July 2, 2018. Prior to finalizing, DHS will consider all written comments received. 

Public Notice: Proposed Remedies Used to Enforce Compliance for Long-Term Care Facilities with Deficiencies

The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), pursuant to the requirements outlined in 42 C.F.R §447.205 and §1902(a)(13)(A) of the Social Security Act, hereby gives notice of  the establishment of two additional remedies to ensure prompt compliance with nursing facility requirements. The additional remedies include directed plan of correction and directed in-service training. This change will allow for the State Surveying Agency to use and implement any and all available remedies when a nursing facility is found to be non-compliant.

Public Notice: Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Technical Changes

The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), pursuant to the requirements outlined in 42 C.F.R. §447.205 and §1902(a)(13)(A) of the Social Security Act, hereby gives notice of technical changes regarding the development of PACE capitation rates, counties served by the PACE program, and alignment of approved methodologies and processes.

Process Improvement Working Group


The purpose of the Process Improvement Working Group is to provide the Medicaid Director with an in-depth review of the current Medicaid processes and then work with Medicaid staff, the Managed Care Organizations and providers to help improve the processes. The group consists of various Medicaid providers from across the state. The Department will provide updates to DHS Council, MAAC and the hawk-i board, as the group progresses.

The purpose of the Iowa State Innovation Model (SIM) Healthcare Innovation and Visioning Roundtable is to engage leaders around the state to develop consensus and transform how the healthcare system operates to best serve the needs of all Iowans.  It will identify and prioritize elements necessary for reform, such as specific payment models, infrastructure support and policy and regulatory shifts necessary to fuel progress.
