Quality Rating System Overview

The Quality Rating System (QRS) was created in 2006 to raise the quality of child care in Iowa, to increase the number of children in high-quality child care settings, and to educate parents about quality in child care.  This voluntary program provides a rating of between one and five stars for providers who go the extra mile to offer exceptional child care. 

Since it's implementation the QRS has continued to evolve to better align with nationally recognized quality standards. Most recently, in SFY' 2018, the QRS Oversight Team completed a review of Iowa's QRS. As a result of this review the program was rebranded as IQ4K with a fresh new look. Additionally the the oversight team developed and has released drafts of newly redesigned categories for homes and centers.  These finalized drafts can be found below.
