The annual average concentration provides an indication of the long-term trends in the burden of Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5).

The annual National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for concentration of PM2.5 is 12 micrograms per cubic meter (mcg/m^3). Prior to 2013 the standard was 15 mcg/m^3.

The percentage of the population living in counties that exceed the NAAQS provides an indication of the population at risk for long-term exposure to PM2.5.

Measure Description:

  1. Annual average ambient concentrations of PM2.5 in micrograms per cubic meter (mcg/m^3)
  2. Proportion of the population with
    • PM2.5 monitors in county and annual average ambient concentrations over the annual NAAQS
    • PM2.5 monitors in county and annual average ambient concentrations below the annual NAAQS
    • No PM2.5 monitors in county
